Young Engineer(1)/Du Jeune Ingénieur
Constructo(1)
Build-O Construction Sets
Built-O-Mobile
All these construction systems appear to be repackaged Merkur marketed by Paramount Industries, Canada. Not certain if they were made in Canada under license or were imported from Merkur in Czechoslovakia. It is thought that Young Engineer(1)/Du Jeune Ingénieur came first in around 1978. followed by Constructo(1) in around 1980 and then Build-O in 1981/2. Not sure where Built-O-Mobile fits in at present as no dates for it are currently known.
Both the YOUNG ENGINEER and CONSTRUCTO manuals are reworked versions of the MERKUR English instruction 1-7 sets manual that was published in 1960. Different picture layouts in each manual but with the exact same English texts copied from MERKUR….
The BUILT-O-MOBILE manual is a reworked English / French version of the 1965 Merkur No. 201 and 202 sets manual (which introduced new parts like the rubber tracks and large tractor wheels / tires). This manual is confusing because the English instruction texts have numerous references to the MERKUR No. 1-7 and 201 - 202 sets and say nothing about the Canadian V8 - V12 sets while the French pages have V8 - V12 instead of 201 - 202.....
